“Perfect Day” original song

I wrote this song many years ago. It was nice to revive it for this video. I haven’t played it in a while. I thought maybe I wouldn’t post this week, because my cat is dying, and I’m extra sad. But I actually enjoy doing this, and it’s something I need to get better at. So, I’ll do my best to keep posting in my song diary this week.

This song I wrote after an especially heart breaking experience with a friend of mine. Not a boyfriend, but a good friend. Let’s raise a glass to not fucking up friendships.

I keep on hoping you’ll give me one more chance
It’s a pity this won’t last
I’ve lost the perfect day
Another car broke down on the highway

I used to keep you from falling to the ground
They say you’re lucky she’s around
But I got lost and fell behind
Now I’m the one who pulls you down

Put on your nicest party dress
It’s time to clean up all your mess
Time to hold your own all alone at a party

I never thought it’d be this hard
Keeping up to play my part
Better stop this car
Get this broken heart off the highway

I’m just as fucked as everyone we know
But it’s different, I feel different, when we’re alone
I’ve lost the perfect day
All dressed up for a piece of white cake

Put on your nicest party dress
It’s time to clean up all your mess
Time to hold your own all alone at a party

I never thought it’d hurt this much
To be the one to fuck things up
Better stop this car
Get this broken heart off the highway

“Jump Girl Jump” original song

I was actually able to write a song today, yay! I tried to use imagery from Peter Pan in this song. I’ll keep working on it.

Working Title: “Jump Girl Jump”
Inspiration: peter pan

Where did you learn to fly?
Are you the last of your kind?
I heard a tapping at my window
And there you were a ray of light

Covered in leaves and mud
You told me, I need someone
like you to help me
figure some things out

(chorus)
Jump girl jump
You gotta jump to follow me
Oh honey you’ll be fine
I do this all the time

You showed me your wounds
Then I took care of you
I bit my tongue too much to count
But I’ll figure it out

But you couldn’t understand
Why I always fell down
And the sound of the ticking clock
Got too close

chorus

Those years by your side
I never learned to fly
But for what its worth
You’re the only one of  your kind

I know I promised you
I’d always tell the truth
But the words aren’t coming strong
You best move on

chorus

Songwriting Challenge 2 “Side Street”

Here’s another 45 minute challenge. I can’t say I recommend you listen to it, but it’s not the WORST thing I’ve ever written, either. Apologies for the what iMovie did to my guitar…some weird distortion going on there. When I feel up to it, I’ll work on my MTECH.

Working Title “Side Street”
Inspiration an old voice memo on my iphone

Driving free and easy
it’s the life I’ve lived so far
even if I’m going nowhere
damned sure I’ll find something there Continue reading
